Key Biscayne's Fall Calendar Runs Through Bill Baggs, Piers Closed and All

Between now and mid-December, the island's biggest dates mostly happen at the south end of Crandon Boulevard. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park has a Wednesday evening talk, a Saturday night Halloween event, the Lighthouse Run, two volunteer clean-ups and a holiday flotilla at No Name Harbor on its fall calendar. The same park still lists its fishing piers as closed for repairs, a notice dated September 11, 2023. Even with those closures, the 1825 lighthouse grounds have become the island's main event space for the season.

A Season Timed Ahead of the Traffic

Fall has a practical edge over the rest of the year on Key Biscayne. At a March 26 county meeting on planned Rickenbacker Causeway bridge repairs, Village Manager Steve Williamson named the island's busiest stretch. Islander News reported that he wanted the county to:

"inform early, inform frequently, and make sure we have a plan for events (on Virginia Key) and plans for the high traffic period, which usually is between January and May."

According to that same coverage, county officials expected the bridge work's lane restrictions to run overnight on weekdays and to skip weekends and special-event days. As of mid-October, we have found no public update confirming whether that work has started. The schedule below therefore treats the causeway as it is today. The October-to-December events all fall before the January stretch the Village Manager described.

The Cape Carries Most of the Calendar

The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sunset every day of the year, and entry costs $8 per vehicle. Two closure notices are still up on the Florida State Parks page. One covers the fishing piers, closed since September 2023. The other covers Restroom #2, Beach Access #3 and picnic pavilions A8 and A9, closed for renovations since June 4, 2025. Neither notice gives a reopening date.

The park's own fall listings:

  • Fireside Chat, Wednesday, October 14, 6 to 8 p.m. The Friends of Cape Florida describe the subject as turtles, tides and tales from the deep.
  • Haunted Hike, Saturday, October 24, 6 to 10 p.m. The listing includes carnival games, face painting, music, fantasy theater, food trucks and the hike itself.
  • Park clean-ups, Saturday, November 14 and Saturday, December 12, 9 to 11 a.m.

Both clean-ups land on the same mornings as the cape's two biggest gatherings of the season. That overlap shapes the November and December weekends more than anything else on the calendar.

November 14 Is the Busiest Morning at the Cape

The Key Biscayne Lighthouse Run is organized by a volunteer Lighthouse Run Committee, and the Village says the state park is among its co-sponsors. Both races start and finish near the Cape Florida Lighthouse and loop through the park and island streets. The logistics, per the RunSignup registration page:

  1. Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026.
  2. Start times: the 10K at 7:40 a.m., the 5K at 7:50 a.m. The organizer's own site describes the 5K as a run/walk.
  3. Entry: $40 per race.
  4. Registration deadline: Friday, November 13 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

The money stays on the island. The organizer says net proceeds support volunteer organizations and charities, including MAST Academy Athletics, Key Biscayne Presbyterian School, the Soccer Club, the Rugby Club, the Girl Scouts and the ASK Club.

The park clean-up starts at 9 a.m. that same Saturday. A runner who finishes the 5K has time to join it without leaving the park.

The Village Side Fills the Gaps Between Cape Weekends

Most of the Village's fall dates sit on the days around the park's events, not on top of them.

The VKB Concert Series brings Mad World Orchestra, an '80s tribute act, to Paradise Park on Friday, October 23 at 7 p.m. The concert is free, and the listing suggests bringing chairs, blankets and snacks. The next evening is the Haunted Hike, and the Parks & Recreation Fall Festival follows on Sunday, October 25, from noon to 5 p.m. The Village calendar does not give a location for the festival, so check before you head out.

Across the causeway, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center in Crandon Park runs a family Seagrass Adventure on October 24 from 1 to 3 p.m., at $15 per person. That puts it on the same day as the Haunted Hike, a few hours earlier. The center's Miami Watercolor Society Fall Exhibition opens October 28 and stays up through January 3, 2027, free to the public. It is the one item on this list that lasts into peak season.

The Village describes Winterfest as a two-day celebration in early December. Its calendar lists SPAM Allstars at Winterfest on Saturday, December 5. The Key Biscayne Chamber listing gives Winterfest as Sunday, December 6, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Village Civic Center. It is free and includes Santa's arrival, the Christmas-tree lighting, live entertainment, performances by local groups and food from Key Biscayne restaurants. Read together, the listings point to a December 5 and 6 weekend, with the concert Saturday and the tree lighting Sunday. The Village calendar is the place to confirm the final times.

Where to Eat Around the Events

Several island spots have changed recently. The details below come from the Islander News Taste of Key Biscayne partner roundup for Friday, October 9, which carries the restaurants' own descriptions.

Spot Where What's new Hours as listed
Kebo's Corner 200 Crandon Blvd., Key Colony Plaza Billed as "the new flavor corner," serving tacos, burritos, wraps, açaí bowls, smoothies and pastelitos Daily, 8 a.m. to midnight
Donut Gallery 83 Harbor Drive Under new management, billing itself as the island's new burger joint Daily, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.; burgers advertised 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9
Boater's Grill and Lighthouse Café Inside Bill Baggs; Boater's Grill sits at No Name Harbor Both described as open and serving Boater's Grill 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sun.–Wed., 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thu.–Sat.; Lighthouse Café daily, 9 a.m. to sunset

Kebo's Corner stays open until midnight, the latest closing time in that roundup, so it is still serving after the Haunted Hike ends at 10 p.m. Donut Gallery bills itself as the earliest-opening place to eat on the key, and its 6 a.m. start comes well before the 10K's 7:40 a.m. gun. For Winterfest hosting, Casa Silva is a family-run Spanish gourmet shop that Islander News reported opened this year in the Square Shopping Center.

Boater's Grill and the Lighthouse Café have more going on. Their operators told Islander News that a Boater's Grill expansion was under construction and that a refreshed look and eco-friendly upgrades for the Lighthouse Café were planned for 2026. We found no completion date for either project.

December 12 Closes the Season at No Name Harbor

The last big gathering returns to the cape. The Friends of Cape Florida calendar lists the 2026 Holiday Paddleboard Flotilla & Boat Parade on Saturday, December 12. The Village names No Name Harbor in Bill Baggs as the boat parade's annual home. The park's second clean-up runs that morning from 9 to 11 a.m. That makes it the second Saturday this fall, after November 14, when volunteers work the grounds hours before a large crowd arrives.
